ABOUT ME
My Story
Back in 2002, I clenched my first freelance writing job as a content writer for Prevention Magazine's blog. Still working in the corporate world, I fell in love with the new flexibility and freedom of freelance writing, so I left my stable profession. Soon after, I took on several writing jobs including promoting items on various social media websites. Fiction has always been a passion of mine. In 2011, I became a member of the ACFW where I began editing and writing fiction. With my first finished novel, I submitted it to two competitive contests: the ACFW Genesis and The Phoenix Rattler. I became a semi-finalist winner in both. Pitching my new novel at conferences, I had agents wanting to read it. At that time sales called to me, and I became a Mary Kay consultant. Very quickly, I climbed the ladder, recruiting and holding training classes for new consultants. I took time off to venture back to college to get my Business degree, knowing I wanted to start a copywriting business. As a member of Barefoot Writer, American Writers and Artists Inc. What I do for the Central Ohio FCA is ongoing and I help wherever they need. Currently, I am working on their quarterly newsletter and promoting their LinkedIn.
As a Freelance Writer, Copywriter, and Editor, I have worked at various companies including Prevention Magazine's blog. They would provide an idea, I would write an article, and they would publish it on their website. The articles generally consisted of health, fitness, and nutritional recipes.
For about 5 years, I was a writer at the local newspaper where I attended monthly government meetings, took minutes, and wrote the articles that were published.
For AWAI, I was given several products, for example, one being a Yoga Basketball DVD, and I had to write a sales letter. I had to compare it to similar products on the market. There were several areas I had to identify: decide what emotions I should use to sell the product, find expert testimonials, explore product features and benefits, retrieve a target audiance, research competing products and show what made this product stand out. Lastly, I created headlines and liftnotes to finish the copywriting project.
In 2014, I organized a project to ensure AHH received their URAC Accreditation. This was an important project as the company needed the accreditation to perform Utilization Review, their core business. Organization was key, and everything had to be in order such as: policies and procedures, nursing licenses, trainings, employee records, and state licensure, among other various items the company performed over the past 3 years. With my lead, the company received their URAC Accreditation.
For the ACFW, I edit other writers' work and help them compile their chapters into a novel. Several of my clients now have published work.
For Longbourn Editorial Services, I was a content writer. They gave me several projects with content, and asked me to write articles.
